Mechanical Designer

Job Description

We want engineers that can think outside the box. The successful applicant will be designing automation systems for the food industry.
Mechanical design skills and proficiency in Solidworks and GD&T are a must. We expect our engineers to be Project Leads for their projects.
You will supervise all aspects of the job from concept to commissioning at the customer site.

You will begin the projects by having direct contact with the customer to discern requirements and the project scope. From there you
will design the automation solution, supervise the assembly build, host a factory acceptance test with the customer and coordinate the installation/commissioning visit. Teamwork is crucial to success, so communication is key.
Setting project milestones and maintaining schedules will be an integral part of the job. Daily and weekly huddles with the fabricators and
operations manager are what keeps projects moving forward and allows us to anticipate any roadblocks. You will need to be able to travel
abroad for installs and tech visits as our customers are worldwide.

What You Bring:

  • Mechanical Engineer or Technician degree / certification

  • Strong design abilities – able to conceive of elegant solutions to complex design challenges

  • Proficient in Solid Works for 3D design and 2-D layouts and machine drawings

  • Strong knowledge of metal material properties

  • Working knowledge of machining, welding and forming.

  • Hands on abilities with basic shop tools

  • Knowledge in industrial automation including machine vision, sensors, and actuators is desirable, but not required

  • Must be able to travel internationally

What You’ll Do:

  • Interface with customers to determine their requirements – space, environmental and interfacing with other customer installed equipment

  • Design food automation solutions including system design, robot layout and mounting, electrical enclosures, pneumatic schematics, robot attachments, conveyor systems, etc.

  • Host design reviews to solicit team feedback

  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings

  • Mentor and support other engineers with mechanical designs and detailed GD&T drawings

  • Assist with vendor selection for critical components

  • Manage your project using a project scheduling tool and support weekly management reviews to track progress, highlight roadblocks and identify where assistance is required

  • Daily interaction with the assembly team during the build phase.  Troubleshoot and triage issues that occur on the shop floor.

  • Assist the assembly team with hands-on support where required

  • Host a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with the customer

  • Travel to customer location to install and commission the system you have designed

If you are looking to be part of a team that is supportive, outgoing, and revolutionary,
then please send us your resume - we look forward to hearing from you!
